Assignment 8: Poster Design Lab

Design Rationale

For this poster, I wanted to create something for UNT that is different from their usual branding. I like doing shape overlays and using organic elements to change how we view graphics and type. This was a difficult idea to carry out, because fitting images into bird shapes isn’t easy. I wanted to see how creative I could get with the placements, and I really liked how it came out. All of the images used are ones I’ve taken, which was another fun element for me to incorporate. The focus of this was to show the fun and excitement that occurs at UNT in a different way than we are used to seeing. The group images and smiling faces tie into the copy, which is a fun play on bird terminology in reference to the UNT mascot, Scrappy. There is a lot of negative space in this poster, but it is balanced by the busyness of the graphics and the size of the font.
